Cause for Brand

Many people feel demoralized by the fashion and clothing they consume for empowerment and expression. Often, department stores that hold fast fashion and luxury items force consumers to make concessions in the clothes that they purchase. My personal belief is that fashion and clothing are a visual medium of self-expression that is currently hindered by the status quo of body expectations, which are presented and encouraged through the “average size” that big companies in fashion present to the buyer—a tactic used to increase profit margins.

A glaring example is one of the origins of the skinny model; a capitalistic approach to fashion marketing as it takes less physical fabric to put clothing on a smaller body.

Soupansalad takes a genuine approach to the current state of the fashion industry and aims to create clothing that empowers people rather than tears them down. Part of the demoralization comes from the interpersonal physical comparisons people make, facilitated by clothing sizes.

Therefore, a way to combat this would be to create garments that could adjust to fit all or most body types.
